MEET OUR TEAM

Irene Suárez Pérez

Irene is known for her deep commitment to climate action and her ability to connect people, sectors and ideas to drive systemic change. Her work reflects a strong combination of strategic leadership, systems thinking and a passion for building solutions that benefit both people and nature.

With more than fifteen years of experience in climate change and sustainable development, she currently leads the Nature Team within the Climate Champions initiative under the Paris Agreement’s Action Agenda. Throughout her career she has supported the design of climate policies, low-emission development strategies and financial mechanisms for sustainable transitions. At Quantum Leap she contributes strategic insight to initiatives focused on climate action and sustainable development.

Pía Carazo

Pía brings together a deep commitment to human rights, education and creativity. She believes in the transformative power of ideas, learning and artistic expression to inspire more compassionate, interconnected and environmentally responsible societies.

She is co-founder of Quantum Leap and a faculty member at the University for Peace, where she teaches human rights and international law. Her academic work focuses on climate change, sustainable development and human rights. She has also contributed to several publications and educational initiatives related to these topics.

Daniel Klein

Daniel is recognized for his analytical perspective and dedication to strengthening international frameworks that support global climate action. His work reflects a commitment to international cooperation and the development of legal solutions for complex environmental challenges.

He serves as Legal Officer in the Legal Affairs Division of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat. His expertise focuses on international law, climate governance and multilateral negotiations. At Quantum Leap he contributes legal and institutional perspectives related to international climate processes.

CHRISTIANA FIGUERES

Christiana Figueres

Christiana is globally recognized for her visionary leadership and her ability to mobilize international cooperation toward climate solutions. Her work embodies a spirit of practical optimism and a belief in humanity’s capacity to address the climate crisis together.

As Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, she led the international negotiations that resulted in the historic Paris Agreement in 2015. She is currently co-founder of Global Optimism, co-host of the podcast Outrage & Optimism, and co-author of The Future We Choose. She also serves as Chair of The Earthshot Prize Foundation and a member of The B Team.

Esteban Brenes Vega

Esteban Brenes Vega

Esteban brings a strategic vision and a strong ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders. His work reflects a commitment to sustainable development, responsible governance and long-term environmental and social impact.

He has extensive international experience in sustainable finance and development, having worked across more than twenty countries in Latin America, Africa and Southeast Asia. His work spans areas such as natural resource management, blended finance, sustainable agriculture and institutional governance.

Laura Arroyo

Laura is passionate about helping transform ideas into impactful projects that generate positive change. Her work focuses on connecting people, organizations and resources to create meaningful collaboration across sectors.

She holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy and has more than fifteen years of experience in international cooperation, project development and fundraising. Her work focuses on sustainability, human rights and social development initiatives.

Daniela González

Daniela is known for her enthusiasm and commitment to initiatives that promote sustainability and social participation. Her work reflects a strong vocation for transforming ideas into actions that generate positive impact within communities.

She has experience supporting projects related to sustainability and community engagement. At Fundación Quantum, she contributes to the development and accompaniment of initiatives that promote education, participation and climate action. Daniela holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources and Marketing from Universidad Latina de Costa Rica and a Master’s degree in Leadership and Change Management from Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.

Alberto Carrillo

Alberto combines legal expertise and technological perspective with a strong commitment to sustainable development. He believes innovation, collaboration and law can play a key role in advancing solutions that benefit both people and the planet.

He has a background in law, programming and business administration, with experience in commercial law, mergers and acquisitions and compliance for international companies. He holds an MBA from the University of Europe for Applied Sciences in Berlin and contributes to the development of sustainable projects across Europe and Latin America.

Carolina Sánchez

Carolina is passionate about using communication as a catalyst for sustainability and collective action. Her work focuses on building narratives and partnerships that support the transition toward more sustainable and responsible development models.

With more than fifteen years of experience leading communication initiatives related to sustainability, renewable energy and energy transition, she has worked with businesses, public institutions and civil society organizations across Latin America and the Caribbean. At Quantum Leap she contributes to strengthening strategic communication, partnerships and climate advocacy initiatives.

Gimena Segnini

Gimena is a communications professional who believes in the power of storytelling and dialogue to inspire civic engagement and social transformation. Her work focuses on connecting people with the causes that shape a more sustainable future.

She holds a degree in Social Communication from the University of Costa Rica and has supported civil society organizations and diplomatic institutions through communication strategies, social campaigns and participatory methodologies. At Quantum Leap she contributes to communications initiatives related to the Fossil Free Greater Caribbean network and the Costa Rica Libre de Perforación movement.

Sergio Alfaro

Sergio is known for his strategic vision and his deep understanding of the intersection between law, public policy and democratic governance. Throughout his career, he has contributed to strengthening public institutions and advancing regulatory frameworks that support more transparent, resilient and accountable societies.

He is a legal expert with extensive experience in public leadership, diplomacy and strategic governance. He has served as Costa Rica’s Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg, Minister of the Presidency, Executive President of the National Insurance Institute (INS), and Member of the Legislative Assembly. A specialist in constitutional and administrative law, he has played key roles in processes related to public governance, international standards and regulatory compliance. At Fundación Quantum, he contributes strategic insight on governance, institutional strengthening and collaboration between the public sector, private sector and civil society.

Gustavo Morales Ovares

Gustavo is recognized for his critical thinking and his commitment to strengthening public institutions and promoting responsible governance. His work reflects a strong interest in contributing to solutions that advance social well-being and environmental sustainability.

With experience in law and public administration, he has participated in initiatives related to sustainability, governance and development. At Quantum Leap he contributes to strengthening legal and institutional perspectives across several initiatives.

Katherine Mora

Katherine is a technology leader with a clear vision of how innovation and artificial intelligence can contribute to solving complex global challenges. Her work focuses on connecting technology, strategy and purpose to generate meaningful impact.

With a background in computer engineering and more than two decades of international experience across global corporations and startups, she advises organizations on technology strategy and AI leadership. At Quantum Leap she contributes to integrating innovation and technology into sustainability initiatives.
